General Bridges about the invasion in Russia i january 1919
When General Bridges, the officer who oversaw the withdrawal of the Military Mission from Novorossisk, came to record his evaluation of the British intervention in Russia's civil war, expressed himself with simple clarity. 'From time immemorial the classic penalty for mixing in a family quarrel had beena thick ear, and our ill-staged interference in Russian civil war cost us some thousands of British solders' lives and L100.000.000 in money, while we earned the bitter enmity of the Russian people for atleast a decade..... On the credit side I can think of nothing. |
